So, I know it has been a while since labor day weekend, however, since this is my scrapbook of sorts (you see how often I blog, this is an indicator of how much attention my real scrapbooks receive!) I thought I would log all our hard work.
This Labor Day weekend we:
- put drywall on all our holes in the house (dubbed drywall fest; this is the 3rd!)
- put a first coat of mud on everything
- textured the dining room
- cut all the tiles for our kitchen
- laid all the tiles in our kitchen
- put Dap on some of the baseboards
Now, it does not seem like much work but it really was. I was soooo tired by the end of the weekend! Anyway, since we worked so hard on labor day weekend it got me thinking about how we moved in this house 3 years ago on Labor Day. Our house looks so different from when we moved in! So, I thought I would chronicle a little bit of the work we have done since we moved in here :
- we had foundation work done
- we had a fence, sprinkler system and granite counters installed
- before we had the counters put in Jace had to demolish the old counters, remove a trash compactor and install a new oven
- we found out the previous owner had let her pets use the house as a bathroom and had to remove all the carpet, clean and disinfect the floors, put primer on them and live on concrete for a year until the foundation settled and we could put in floor
- removed a closet from a bedroom
- completely redid the two downstairs bedrooms floor to ceiling; including scraping the ceilings and retexturing them, texturing and painting the walls and putting new flooring, windows, baseboards and crown moulding
- put a wood ceiling in one of those bedrooms
- removed a support wall between the living room and dining room and replaced with a beam and an arch
- removed a support wall between the kitchen and breakfast room and replaced with a beam and an arch
- ripped out a nasty bathtub
- ripped out all the old bright blue tiles and cheap wood floors, 500 sq ft or so
- found out that the floor had to be lifted up 2 inches with concrete so we contracted that out
- laid tile on all that we ripped out, on the diagonal with medallions requiring every single tile to be cut
- put in french doors in our upstairs bedroom
- restructured our pantry/laundry room; opening up two doorways and covering up two doorways
- put venetian plaster on the stairs
- put in new flooring in the living room
- contracted out for the living room to be textured, painted and the fireplace and paneling lacquered
- removed soffits from the breakfast area and some of the kitchen cabinets
- new baseboards and everywhere
- replaced almost all interior doors
- Removed all the overgrown bushes from the front yard, they covered all the windows, tilled, fertilized, composted and mulched the whole area added in some plants and put in a brick border (still need to work on the plants!)
- random stripping of wallpaper, demolition, rewiring and ceiling scraping
My shoulders feel every bit of it! AND, we did all this while I nursed a baby, Noah was about 3 months when we moved in; had and nursed another baby, Tum; I home schooled Ashy and Jace worked full time and earned his Master's ... whew! Makes me tired just thinking about it all!
So, please bear with me when you see our house, it really will all come together one day :) It is a 10 year project ...
